Celebrating Baby Asher!

My dear sweet friend Renee is having a baby boy in June. Renee and I have been friends since college and I am super excited for her. Talk about one prepared mother, Renee has been bargain hunting and getting her nursery ready for weeks. Today I attended a baby shower for little Asher at Coquette in Raleigh. It was SO good to see Renee and lots of other friends from college (we did miss you Anne and Erin!).

Renee has done a lot of research about organic products and is also going to use cloth diapers. I am so proud of her! I am way too scared to even try and I think my husband might vote me out of the house. She got lots of cute stuff to add to her already well stocked nursery. Can't wait to meet Baby Asher!

The many faces of Moses

As for the sock thing? Well if he doesn't have an available pacifer this his is alternative. I find socks all over the house and the car and I am sure they have been left in a restaurant or two. He kind of looks like a puppy! I am hoping this is the beginning of teething of the top two teeth.

Hello Spring!

The weather has been such a yoyo, so I decided to sneak some of the springtime indoors. I cut some flowering branches for our mantle so that if that cool weather or the torrential rain sneaks up on us again, I can be reminded that we are oh so close to better weather! Moses and I enjoyed a nice walk Thursday in his jogging stroller to celebrate the return of the sunshine.

As far as what else is new, I went to Kidz Stuff Consignment sale at our church. Happy does not even begin to describe how I was when I left. I was the fourth person in line and it really wasn't overly crowded. The clothes were GREAT! I think I picked up every smocked outfit they had in his size! I was also able to get some polos and a few toys that I he loves already. I just wish I could have found an Easter outfit! I guess I will have to keep looking.

We were finally able to return to playgroup Friday after missing some time due to that croupy cold. Moses was happy to see his pals and so was I! Afterwards Laurie and Anna Grace went back to the sale with us. It was weird going through the little girl stuff with her.

Saturday was a busy one as well. I had to work Jr. Visitation Day at Meredith College. It is always a lot of fun to meet with the girls that are thinking of coming to Meredith. While I was there, Brett took Moses to visit Will and Katherine. Afterwards, we had a nice family lunch at Wildflour Pizza YUM! Later that afternoon we went to a couples baby shower for Brett's cousin Nina and her husband Leighton. Moses will soon have another playmate! Baby Bostic will be here in about three weeks. I just hope she can hold on until the shower I have planned for her 10 days before her due date. EEEK! P.S. See how great she looks!

Hello out there

Hey guys, it's Moses! I just wanted to let everyone know how much I love this standing thing. I can see all sorts of stuff! A few days ago, I figured out how to look at my doggie Riley. She has a whole back yard to play in! I can see it when I stand up and look out the back door. I have also learned how to hang on to my new play yard mommy and daddy got me. Mommy has even caught me trying to climb it. Daddy calls my play yard "baby jail" but I like it just fine for now. I have lots of toys in here and when mommy needs a few minutes to do something I can play just fine. I sometimes even talk to myself and hum a little tune. I do like it best when people climb in and play with me. I do wish could get to those cords and remotes and stuff. Maybe I will figure out how to get to them soon!

Seven Months Old!

Today the little man is seven months old! It has been such a great adventure, I just wish it would slow down. So many people are concerned with what he will do next, while I just want to enjoy what he is doing now. Here are somethings that he is doing and enjoying.

- He can get around well. Pushing himself up to a sitting position and pulling up to a standing position. He can also crawl very well.
- Lots of noises and a few babbles (usually when I feed him something he does not like). Sometimes it is like he is humming to himself when he is playing in his play yard.

- His favorite baby foods are applesauce, apples with bananas, and most fruits. He also seems to like peas and sweet potatoes. He really enjoys the breakfast blends (mostly fruit with granola or cereal mixed in.

- His favorite song is the Wheels on the Bus. We also have that book which of course he likes.

- He likes watching Sesame Street with daddy!

- When we go to Target he is sitting in the cart with no baby carrier.

- Usually does well in restaurants when he is in a high chair.

- Loves to "flip" off my lap. (see earlier post)

- We are working on "hand to mouth coordination." Putting the Gerber puffs in his mouth. He has it down with a pacifier.

- Starting to reach to who he wants to go to or when he wants to be picked up.

So far so good! We are unbelievably blessed to have such a smart, sweet, healthy baby boy. Can you believe how much he has grown?!

Babbles and stands

After having the croup/a bad cold, Moses is back in action. As soon as he started feeling better (really even before), he started pulling into a standing poistion. First he used my knee but quickly figured out the couch works much better. So, no more mobile in the crib and this weekend we will probably lower it just in case. He is also really good at pushing to a sitting position from his belly and is really crawling not just scooting.
By far, my favorite new thing is the new babbles. Yesterday I was driving home and from the back seat I heard "mamammama." I thought I was going to have to pull over and kiss him. I thought, he won't do that again for days or weeks! He did a little bit of mmamamas and bababas when Brett got home but not nearly as clear as earlier. This morning I was talking to my mom and out of no where I got a good mamamamammama. His Mimi was SO excited to hear that! He kept it up for our cousin Emily and most of this afternoon when Brett got home. What a great sound!

A day in the life!

I have noticed a lot of people have been asking me about a "typical" day with Moses. What we do when we do it etc so I thought I would fill everyone in! WARNING! If you do not have kids or are not a family member you will find this post particularly boring!

6:30am - 7:30am - Moses is usually up early no matter when he goes to bed. Brett will usually go get him and bring him to our bed. Where I will nurse him.

7:30am - 8:00am - We let him crawl and play in the bed or snuggle. Whichever he is in the mood for. This also gives us a chance to wake up a little. Brett is usually getting ready and leaves for work around 8am.

8:00am - 8:30am - I get a shower and Moses has independent play time. I try to make up the bed and straighten up and do some laundry while he is content in his pack and play. He can usually last about 45 minutes so I have to hurry!

8:30am - 9am - Breakfast! Moses and I both eat our breakfast and have a little high chair play.

9am - 9:45am - Floor play and "jump jump" play time. I pull out toys while he finds cords, shoes, phones, remotes, etc to play with.

9:45am - 10am Diaper change and a little bit of milk before nap.

10am - 11:30am Nap if I am very lucky it will last the entire time. If things are really really good, we go till 12pm.

12pm - 1pm Lunch! On Fridays we go to play group so that varies. Usually If I meet up with anyone it is during this time.

1pm - 2:30pm More floor play time. I try to do some books during this time as well. This is usually the time we are at play group too. We have a big quilt and all the babies have toys to play with.

2:30 - 2:45pm - Diaper change and more milk before nap.

2:45pm - 4:30pm - Nap! Well we try. Afternoon nap for some reason is the hardest! Some times he is up at 3:30pm.

4:30 - 5:30pm - Mommy play time. Some times I think toys are too much! This is when I work with him on his own talking and helping him stand. Just working on the new "milestones." We dance and sing and spin. Sometimes Brett gets home early and joins us.

5:30pm - 6:30pm - Daddy's home! We play with daddy and Moses has his dinner.

6:30pm - 7:00pm - Bath time and winding down time. Also, one last feeding before bed.

7:00pm - 7:30pm - Bed time! Sometimes we put him down and he is already asleep while other times he goes down pretty awake. He'll babble and then fuss a little but then go to sleep.

Never, ever, ever, has a day gone exactly like that. Well maybe once or twice! But it is what we strive for. Naps are usually a struggle and never as long as I would like. Weekends are always different of course. I think building the base for a good schedule but still living our lives has made Moses a very easy going baby. For instance, if for some reason I am running errands and nap time arrives he usually is asleep in the car or stroller. (Note, when we are out he is a very sound sleeper. You would not believe what he slept through at Target yesterday. BUT when we are at home, don't breathe too hard because he might wake up!) If for some reason he does miss a nap, for example church on Sunday, it doesn't change his happy disposition. What can I say? We are blessed!
