Lila Dae Bostic has arrived!

It's a girl! Lila Dae Bostic made her debut on April 17, 2009 a little after 8pm. She weighed in at 6lbs and is 20 inches long. Had a little scare for a bit with the cord being around her neck, but she is doing well now! She is just too cute! She looks like Nina from the nose up and has Leighton's lips and chin. Nina is doing awesome and everyone is just thrilled that Leighton has a little girl to keep him in line. Nina and I are so excited that we get to raise these little rascals together. In fact, they are exactly eight months and one hour apart! (P.S. I think I was a little scared holding such a small baby after Moses. It was SUCH as difference.)

Eight Months Old!

Eight is great! Or so says Moses. So what is new with him?

- He is a champion crawler

- He is "cruising" which basically means standing and and inching his way across furniture.

- Eating new table foods. Trying some potatoes, toast, Cheerios and whatever I can think of.

- He is trying to climb everything.

- He can reach for the person he wants to go to.

- He is a world class flirt.

- To say that he is into everything is an understatement.

- Still loves his applesauce! Can be picky sometimes but has been receptive to trying new things as far as food.

- Very well behaved when sitting in our laps.

- Does well in the nursery at church.

- Can say dadada (sometimes daddy), mamamama, bababababa, lalalalala, gagagaga.

- He can "mouth" papa (Which makes my father absolutely thrilled).

Basically he is a little acrobat. Friday, I went to Target. He was sitting in the cart exactly as he should and buckled in. I take my bag and put it in the car and turn back to see him STANDING facing the OPPOSITE way trying to retrieve his pacifier...still with the strap around his waist/back. Every time I leave the house, I think someone is going to see one of his trick and report me to social services! Let's see what the next month brings!

Something new...and gross

I have been pretty sure for the past week that Moses' top teeth are trying to break through. Yesterday, he started putting his hand in front of his mouth unless I was giving him applesauce, puffs, Cheerios or toast. I did manage to get some other things in even though he was NOT happy about it.

Fast forward to today. Moses was not pleased with the Cheerios I gave him. He gagged and promptly threw up. I was so worried it was a virus. No fever, not other symptoms. I try to give him some more food. He takes some puffs. Thinking it might be the teeth, I try to give him some Tylenol. They dropper goes in his mouth and he promptly throws up again. AAAAAAHHHHH. Now I am pretty sure he is making himself sick when he doesn't want something.

I tried one more time at lunch to give him something other than applesauce and puffs. Promptly threw up again. I called the nurse at the doctor's office. She laughed and agreed. He is teething and exercising his gag reflex because of it. SO NOT FUN! He has also been clingy with what we call a bad case of the "mommies." Now I am thinking that all four top ones are coming in together. He really did not have many issues when the bottom teeth came in. Anyone have any suggestions, thoughts, helpful hints....or would like to come live with me for a few days!!!

Easter

I think Easter is probably one of my favorite times of the year! With all that it signifies and the blossoming around us you can't help but be happy and hopeful. It arrived just in time for Moses. He has some Easter gifts that are going to come in handy very soon! Since he is growing so fast, his Nana got him some PJs so we don't wake up one day and have outgrown them all. Mimi and Papa came up to celebrate Easter weekend with us. They brought Moses a wagon! Quite a "caddy" as Mimi put it. It even has a canopy for when it is just a little too hot. The Easter Bunny brought him some shorts, a swing and a float for the pool in the summer! Mimi told us that he visited her house early and brought him some beach toys too. What a lucky little boy!

After checking out some toys, we went to church at Hayes Barton Baptist. I know I have said it a million times but I LOVE our church! Dr. Hailey's message was so great! He told us a story of a man he was counseling many years ago. He was about to pray with him about accepting Christ in his life. The man said he was so excited because when he did all his problems would be solved; his wife would not divorce him and he would get his job back. Dr. Hailey said he stopped him and told him that is not how it works. The man asked if that was not how accepting Jesus worked, why would anyone do it. Dr. Hailey responded that when you accepted Jesus it meant that he was always with you and you are never alone in times of need. This is the second time recently that this message has been relayed to me and I think it is something we often forget. You are not alone. Christ is with you.

After services, we went to lunch at the State Club. As you can see from the picture it was A LOT of food! They had oysters, shrimp, prime rib, ham as well as breakfast food and tons of desserts! By the way, the staff there loves Moses. They all know who he is and when he sees Greg and some of the other waiters he just grins. He was a very good boy while the big people ate their food.

After everyone had a nap, it was time to go outside to try out Moses' new wheels. I think he really likes the wagon; especially since it was full of Easter eggs. We took turns pushing and pulling him down the street. He especially liked it when his Papa pulled him really fast. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. What I'm Reading..

The people that know me extremely well often ask what I'm reading. I have been an insatiable reader since age 3. I often read some books numerous times when I enjoy them. I usually always have one with me just in case I have a free second. So I thought when I read something new I'd blog about it.

Currently, I am reading Unthinkable (http://www.amazon.com/Unthinkable-Survives-When-Disaster-Strikes/dp/0307352897) I really enjoy a good nonfiction and this one is great. If you enjoy a good episode of 20/20 or Dateline you'd love this book. Basically, it tells you why certain people survive disasters and why. It goes into the human brain and the differences in people and what makes them react in certain ways. A lot of the examples are taken from 9/11 and the stories of survivors. About two years ago I read 102 Minutes, which told numerous stories from that day so it is really interesting to apply the reasons why some people got out and others did not. It also talks about fires, hurricanes and other disasters that you are more likely to encounter.

I am also reading another nonfiction, Lost: The Search of Six in Six Million. This is a heavy hard read so I am taking a break for now and will write about it when I finish.

Summer reading suggestions:
- The Time Traveler's Wife - Probably one of my all time favorite books. I could read it a million times. It is actually being made into a movie in the fall so read it this summer.
- Beach Music - Another favorite. Pat Conroy, enough said.
- Anything by Jodi Piccoult is a nice read. Not quite chic-lit, but a good quick read. I've read everything she has written, but my personal favorite is My Sister's Keeper which is also being made into a movie. (Darn you Hollywood, you always ruin great books!)

La La La, La La La, Moses' World

On Friday, I received a call from Brett that one of his coworkers had brought something for Moses to work. He told me that there were three large garbage bags full of toys in the back of his car. Talk about overwhelming! I could not believe the generosity! We sorted through the toys and plan to give a good amount to charity as well. It was so nice because the toys were all different age ranges so we can introduce them to him over the next few months.

Today, Moses went to his first Easter Egg Hunt! I work on the Young Alumnae Board at Meredith College and one of our projects we help with is the annual Alumnae Family Easter Egg Hunt. This was the first year I was able to attend and I was so pleased to see such a large turn out. It was a beautiful day and the kids seemed to really enjoy the activities. Since I was playing photographer and helping set up, Brett took Moses around to play with bubbles and crawl in the grass. He was successful in finding an egg with a little "help" from his parents. He found that egg several times!

Nina's Shower

Can you tell babies are on the way? This was the third baby shower we had in three weeks! Brett's mom and I gave a shower for Nina on Saturday. I love giving showers! Not only do I get to help celebrate someone I love, but I get to do some party planning!

Nina is due in ten days. She does not know if she is having a boy or a girl which made the conversation more like a guessing game. It seems everyone thinks she is having a girl so only time will tell. We got to hear lots of stories about Nina and Leighton as babies and enjoyed spending time with their families.
